Hello Congressman Peters & Staff,
I am writing to request your help in persuading the City of San Diego to reconsider the site of the proposed 700 bed “NTC H-Barracks” Homeless Shelter.
The site’s proximity to the San Diego Airport’s Terminal 2 (750 feet) and critical military installations like the Naval Information Warfare Training Group (850 ft) and MCRD (1200 ft) presents serious concerns. The increased risk of breaches to airport and military perimeters could have national security implications.
The placement also poses potential safety issues for military families residing nearby, with numerous active-duty households and school-age children in the area. The introduction of a large homeless population could escalate conflicts, expose children to traumatic situations, and strain local emergency services, impacting public health and safety.
The negative repercussions of situating the shelter at this location are far-reaching, impacting federal agencies (FAA, TSA) and the effective operation of a major transportation hub. The shelter’s current proposed location jeopardizes the welfare of our military community and federal operations.
I strongly advise seeking alternative solutions that address the needs of the homeless without compromising security and the well-being of military families and federal facilities.
Thank you for considering this pressing issue.
